Science Language Arts Social Studies Unified Arts
MathMultiples on a Calculator - Students use a calculator as one tool for skip-counting by 2-digit numbers.
Science
Illustrating a Simple Electrical Circuit Using Paint Software - Students will use the Paint program to illustrate an electrical circuit. It is assumed that students have been taught how to use this program previously.
Visual Organizer Using Inspiration or Word - Students will use graphic organizer software (Inspiration or Kidspiration) or Microsoft Word to create a graphic organizer to demonstrate the water cycle.
Categorizing Rocks - Students describe the characteristics of various rocks and record their observations in a database (e.g. Access)
Reading
Student Authors and Autobiographies - Students gather information about an author of their choice from an internet web site, using Kidspiration/Inspiration for organizing the information. Students write a three-paragraph autobiography to use as an “About the Author” piece to attach to their own writing for the year (or include in their writing portfolio).
Communicating with Authors via E-Mail - Students will learn the appropriate use of e-mail and compose an e-mail to a children’s book author after reading one or more books by that author.
Story Retelling in a Multimedia Format - Students will create a PowerPoint presentation as a retelling of a fictional story for younger children. This lesson works with any genre.
Electronic File Management in Reading Class - Using Microsoft Word students will create a system of file management under their own login name. These folders will be used to record their progress in meeting reading standard 1.4. This same lesson can be used to create folders for other subject areas such as writing, math, etc.

Using Digital Photographs to Enhance Procedure Writing - This lesson will work best using some materials commonly found in the classroom. For example making a cube creature in math, a science experiment, various classroom procedures, or a routine in physical education. It could be used for some recess activity such as building a snowman. Students will use digital cameras to take photos of the procedure and then complete the written work.
Social Studies - No Lessons available at this time.
Unified Arts
Music - Beginning Composition using music composition software - Students will create a class poem, write the rhythm to the poem, create a rhythmic ostinato and compose a melody in “Sibelius”. Students will then critique (using the practices of the Vermont Midi Project) and share their music. We share our music in my class by projecting the music on the classroom screen and playing it for everyone.
Music - Creating an ABC Opera Vocabulary Book - Students will create an “ABC” book about a topic they are studying using Microsoft Word.
Music - Technology Integration Project for “Peter and The Wolf" - Students will create a Power Point show to illustrate what they have learned about the music and story “Peter and the Wolf”.
French - Survey – Graphical Representation with MaxCount (Excel) - Students will be paired to conduct a survey in class about their likes and dislikes of different animals (or any topic of your choice). Then they will total their results of how many people said yes and no. The next step will be on the computer using Excel or MaxCount (version of Excel for younger kids) to enter the data and create a graph to show their results. We will also create a graph to show the results of all the surveys together.
French - Postcard - French accent marks in Publisher - Students will create a postcard describing themselves using Microsoft Publisher to send to a new or make believe pen pal. The students will be introduced to a technique on how to integrate accent marks on a computer program. The activity will lend itself to printing their postcard and mailing it to their pal or sending it through email.
PE - Personal Best – Goal Setting/Fitness Journal - Students will be creating an electronic journal that emphasizes goal setting in relation to their results from their recent fitness testing scores. The journal will allow them to develop a personal fitness plan and track their progress by entering their data into a table and viewing a bar graph.
How Far Can We Go? – Recording Distance with Pedometers and Microsoft Excel - Students will be working with a partner to complete a fitness challenge. Students will be wearing a pedometer while moving on the track. They will record their steps and enter them into a spreadsheet template. The template will calculate the classes total distance traveled.
Digital Camera's to Analyze Movement Performance - Students will be using a digital camera to capture a video clip of a partner's movement performance. Students will then import their video into the computer for analysis. Students will look at how they can improve their skill technique.
