Youth Participation

Students from our 3 member schools of St. Albans City School, St. Albans Town Educational center and Fairfield Center School choose to participate in Open Doors. Youth from all walks of life are encouraged to try Open Doors by school day staff, but being pre-teens, they choose to come because we provide them with the learning, social and leadership opportunities they crave. During the 2004-2005 school year 52% of the middle school students in our district participated in Open Doors! According to our program studies, Open Doors students who participated regularly (60 hours or more in programming a year) on average missed 22% fewer days of school than the general school population. These students also tended to hold their school-day grades steady or improve their grades.
